Merit Week 11

Wow, the weeks can go from bad to great. My broken computer was fixed and replaced. My two mac were delivered and work great. I had two flat screen monitors installed to replace two that looked like they would fall off the table. And best of all - I received a $500 grant for a new scanner to work on e-portfolio's. I am so excited. But the icing on the cake is that I am in Napa and the CUE conference. I got to hear Rushton Hurley on "The 'Even More' of Educational Technology: Its Pedagogical, Professional, and Personal Power. This was our free gift xrl.us/RustoninNapa so check it out. The link to Neuron Functions made me think how my students might learn things. I can't wait to share it with them.

More students seem to be blogging. I have them take notes before going to the computers. That does seem to help. But I think adding video might really encourage them to do more. We read in our social studies text book a short play. They can't wait to perform it because I tape it for their portfolio.

CNN Student News has my students really engaged. After the news we look at maps and see where the countries are located. We guess together during the news program and they love to see me guess wrong.

My students seem to have short attention spans so I really need to work on only doing things for 15 minute increments. What is hard is that I have my students for over 3 periods a day and some for 4 periods a day. I think we almost get tired of each other.

I want to work on response to questions via the cell phone. I think my students will really like that. I need to start thinking of project 4. My two old computers will not be replaced. There are no old 4G's available so I can't have google earth installed on all computers. I still want to do a google earth trip.

We are starting the Diary of the Wimpy Kid in 6th grade Language Arts. I wonder if they could write a report in the style of the book? There is never enough time...
